When Angelina dreams of going to Prince Ramiro's ball, she is stopped by her vain stepsister and greedy stepfather. After outfoxing them, Angelina becomes the belle of the ball, but her time is limited to a midnight curfew. Sound familiar? Angelina is, of course, La Cenerentola, or Cinderella, in Rossini's playful and nuanced interpretation of this story of human kindness told through enchanting music. This intimate and joyful "little Cinderella" is portrayed by four young singers in spectacular costumes. Sandra Pocceschi and Giacomo Strada created this French adaptation, which is set in a grand reception room accompanied by a small orchestra. Watch out for the transformation ballgown!
