Presentation

According to legend, the town of Hamelin was suddenly infested with rats that devoured everything in their path. Then an unknown piper appeared before the starving citizens and offered to rid the town of this terrible scourge. On his magic pipe he played an enchanting tune that lured the rats into a nearby river where they drowned. But the town reneged on its promise to pay the piper. To punish the greedy towns folk, he returned and played another tune that filled the children’s hearts with joy. They followed the mysterious stranger out of the town dancing and singing, never to be seen again.
Throughout her career, Béatrice Massin has developed her own inimitable choreographic approach, juxtaposing the Baroque style, of which she is a great specialist, and contemporary dance. In this new devised piece aimed at spectators of all ages, she transforms the medieval legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin popularized by the Brothers Grimm into an otherworldly fable that celebrates the power music holds over the world and our imagination.
