Presentation

An OnR Ballet premier within the Musica festival lineup, Le Mur is a collab between Mathilde Monnier, a trailblazing figure on France’s contemporary dance landscape, and Ève Risser, a rising star in the improvised music scene and versatile musician. Raised amid the landscapes of Mulhouse, Colmar, and Strasbourg, both artists found a natural affinity, drawing inspiration from the Vosges Mountains and their distinctive pink sandstone vistas.

The live percussive pulse of two keyboards, performed by Ève Risser, drives the momentum for twelve dancers as they move across the stage. Mathilde Monnier also explores rhythm to spark the audience’s imagination, seamlessly weaving contemporary and classical dance vocabularies. Le Mur unfolds as a sound and dance score with a dream-like quality that is as much poetic as it is political. The titular wall, brought to life through the staging, serves not only as a landscape to behold but also as a space for confrontation.

At the heart of this encounter, dance and music communicate instinctively with the senses, continuously drawing us deep into the emotions they rouse. Their power builds until they seem capable of “moving mountains,” carrying with them the majestic stones of the Vosges, just as Ève Risser foretells.
