Presentation
In a remote and gloomy Scottish castle, Lucia Ashton finds herself shackled by her family’s iron grip, pressured into an arranged marriage to safeguard the clan’s honor while her passionate love for Edgardo of Ravenswood is cruelly dismissed. Pushed to the brink, the heroine will ultimately make an irreparable choice. What options remain for a woman trapped in such a ruthless world?
Loosely based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott, this story centers around the tragic love story of a woman caught in an impossible dilemma. Director Evgeny Titov and set designer Lizzie Clachan have created a labyrinthine stage that perfectly captures the feeling of being cornered. The set tightens around Lucia, reflecting the relentless grip of her family’s control.
Lucie de Lammermoor is the French-language adaptation of Donizetti’s Italian opera, which premiered in 1839. He crafted music that ranks among the most stirring masterpieces of the Romantic era. Celebrated for its demanding vocal acrobatics and deeply moving arias, the title role is performed by Lauranne Oliva, an Opéra Studio alumna and a winner of the best newcomer award at the Victoires de la Musique. On the podium, conductor Karen Kamensek breathes new life into the tragic spirit of bel canto.
