A word of advice for parents: the best way to get your children to do what you want is to forbid them to do it! It’s not manipulation, it’s education. And always for their own good. This unusual method is successfully tested by Mrs Hucklebee and Mr Bellomy. To encourage their offspring to marry, they invent a feud, build a wall between their two houses and forbid them from communicating. Love soon follows. But be careful not to give the game away, because nothing bores children more than predestiny.
Loosely inspired by Edmond Rostand’s play, The Fantasticks is the longest-running off-Broadway musical, with a near 42-year run at the same New York theatre. Its twisting, turning plot—part Romeo and Juliet, part Così fan tutte —and hits such as Try to Remember, which has become an American standard (and the music for a commercial), have made it an off-Broadway landmark. This version is performed in French by the artists of the Opéra Studio in a show for young and old, directed by Myriam Marzouki.
