Presentation

Around the remains of the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, other ruins are piling up: those of our modern world. The landscape is being eroded by vast illegal landfills controlled by the Mafia, who operate a network that spans the Mediterranean north to south. But another form of life is emerging among the heaps of rubbish: plants are adapting, resisting and flourishing.

In Fleurs de Feux, photographer Anaïs Tondeur captures the language of these plants that serve as a silent witness to our society. The artist will lead a guided tour of the exhibition, accompanied by Ciro Todono, activist, rural warden and journalist from the region. They will talk about the creative process that brought them together, as well as the environmental and political issues facing a region that bears the scars of pollution and years of silence.

During the tour, a letter written by the philosopher Michael Marder will be read aloud to one of the photographed plants on display. An experience where science, photography, activism and poetry meet.
