Living Here and Elsewhere

Fusing Eastern and experimental music with poems by Konstantinos Kavafis (often known as C P Cavafy in English; 1863–1933), Vivre ici et ailleurs is a tale of displacement, spanning continents and weaving them together. The connection between the poet’s texts and Karam Al Zouhir’s compositions is beautifully illustrated through the stories of two men far from home who use their memories to forget the present and anchor themselves in the distant past. The distinctive musical palette of this project is carried by the unique timbre of the viola whose immense depth creates a powerful narrative thread.
