Hinduism today represents 80% of the total population of this huge country but throughout its history religious minorities have continuously shaped its identity and culture. Hindu nationalists tend to tip India into a new type of regime, ethnic democracy. Electoral successes of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister since 2014, and the recent decisions taken by his national populist government raise fears for the worst for the future of India.
