Biography

Finnish-born lyric tenor Jussi Myllys started his international career in 2005, singing Don Ottavio in
Turku and at the Komische Oper Berlin. He studied at the Sibelius Academy and has received
extensive training both as a singer and a dancer.
From 2006-2009, Myllys was a member of the ensemble of Oper Frankfurt performing roles such as
Va?ek/The Bartered Bride, Tamino/Die Zauberflöte, Pedrillo/Die Entführung aus dem Serail,
Jaquino/Fidelio, Belfiore/La finta Giardiniera, and Don Ottavio/Don Giovanni.
In 2009 he joined the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein performing the main roles of the
Mozart repertoire and broadening his repertoire towards Verdi and Strauss. In March 2010, he gave
his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in a new opera by Peter Eötvös, Tragedy of the
Devil, returning in the following seasons as Jacquino/Fidelio and Tammu in the world premiere of
Widmann`s Babylon. As a guest he performed at the Opéra Bastille, Frankfurt Opera, Savonlinna
Opera Festival, Komische Oper Berlin, in Dresden, Helsinki, and at the Edinburgh Festival in roles such
as Steuermann/Der fliegende Holländer, Narraboth/Salome, Tom Rakewell/The Rake's Progress, and
Fenton/Falstaff.
Highlights of the past seasons include Tamino in Düsseldorf, Saint-Étienne, Barcelona, and at the
Edinburgh Festival, as well as Ferrando/Cosi fan tutte at the Opéra Bastille and Belmonte/Die
Entführung aus dem Serail in Frankfurt.
Myllys is particularly active as a concert singer, his repertoire including works by Bach, Handel, Haydn,
Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Concert engagements resulted in collaborations
with the Gürzenich Orchestra under Markus Stenz and the Bachakademie Stuttgart under Helmuth
Rilling (Rihm: Deus Passus) as well as in a Japan tour with the RIAS Kammerchor and concerts in
Prague, Riga (under Peter Schreier), Geneva (Haydn: Missa Cellensis), and Kuopio (Haydn: The
Creation).
In addition to concerts with the Bachakademie Stuttgart last season's highlights include Die
Zauberflöte/Tamino, Die Entführung aus dem Serail/Belmonte, and Die lustigen Weiber von
Windsor/Fenton in Düsseldorf, Eugene Onegin/Lenski in Helsinki, a concert version of Widmann's
Babylon/Tammu at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam under the baton of Markus Stenz, as well as Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Sallinen's Castle in the Water at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
In the season 2017/18 Jussi Myllys takes on the title role in Hans Neuenfel's production of Lucio Silla
under the musical direction of Erik Nielsen at Theater Basel. On the stage of the Deutsche Oper am
Rhein he can be seen and heard as Tamino/Die Zauberflöte, Belmonte/Die Entführung aus dem Serail,
Sir Richard Fenton/Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, and under Axel Kober as Singer/Der Rosenkavalier. In addition, he will be performing the roles of Tamino and Ferrando/Cosi fan tutte at
the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.
