It’s been 25 years since French audiences were first enchanted by the animated films released by Studio Ghibli. One composer has scored most of its movies: Joe Hisaishi, whose melodies are inspired by Tchaikovsky and Debussy as well as traditional Japanese music. This Lyrical Break presents a selection of his most accomplished scores, including Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro, accompanied by excerpts from the films.
