Presentation

As a strange wind of sand sweeps across the country, two men cross paths at Aunt Fatima’s. In the labyrinthine streets of Jerusalem, people are seduced nightly by tales of jinns, lions and knights. Amidst the chaos, Gabriel and Isaac fall in love, lose one another and get reunited, before deciding to take a trip. But isn’t that a crazy idea in a fragmented country where the sandstorm and checkpoints are just two of the obstacles in their path?

L’Éden à l’aube (Eden at Daybreak) is the third work of fiction by Karim Kattan, a Palestinian writer from Bethlehem. After an award-winning collection of short stories and a debut novel, this second novel returns to his rich, hybrid literary world, which melds oral tradition and classical culture, realism and magic.
