Presentation
Cheb is a project in which Filipe Lourenço, who trained in Arabic–Andalusian music and traditional dance before embarking on a career as a contemporary dancer, explores his heritage.
The music came first, before any intention of movement. The work originated from his research into the traditional music of the Maghreb and the bridges that can be built between it and contemporary popular music. What connects this music and the music that has filled our lives from the end of the twentieth century to the beginning of the twenty-first? The soundscape incorporates traditional rhythms, pop, rock, funk and electro beats in search of influences, connections, differences and similarities. Conceived by composer François Caffenne and percussionist Nuri, who specializes in traditional North African music, these musical meanderings provide the spark that brings bodies to life before our eyes.
