This short is part of the I Stared at Beauty So Much series by artists and filmmakers Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige. They chose a poem by Constantin Cavafy, Waiting for the Barbarians, recited by the architect Bernard Khoury, to accompany this work made up of more than 50 panoramic photos of Beirut, into which the video infuses sparkling pulses of life. Time, space and movement merge into a single plane. Waiting for the Barbarians evokes the power of poetry and the determination to oppose the disintegration of society, a city, and a country.
