Biography

Born in Italy, he began his vocal and organ studies at Lodi Cathedral where he was a chorist, working under the direction of Pietro Panzetti. He continued his training in London with Colin Baldy and became a member of the Young Artists program of the Monteverdi Choir, in close collaboration with Sir John Eliot Gardiner. He perfected his skills with Fernando Cordeiro Opa in Bologna. His repertoire ranges from recitar cantando to contemporary operas. He made his US debut at the Festival of Spoleto, in the male lead role of Delio (Veremonda by Cavalli) alongside Vivica Genaux. He made his debut at La Fenice with Orlando furioso by Vivaldi and at the Florence Opera with Didone abbandonata by Vinci. He also plays Nerone (L'incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi) at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Leone (Bajazet by Gasparini) at the Festival Opera Barga, Roberto (Griselda by Vivaldi), Santino (Amore siciliano) under the direction of Leonardo Alarcón, Acrimante (Empio punito). He is the first countertenor to be invited to the Verona Arena for Carmina Burana. Recognized performer of Handel's operas, he sings the roles of Arsace (Berenice) at the Handel International Festival in Göttingen, Nerone (Agrippina) at the Grange Festival, Medoro (Orlando) at the Theater an der Wien, the title role of Arbace at the Handel Festival in Halle, Disinganno (Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno) in Innsbruck, Versailles and Rouen, Goffredo (Rinaldo) in OperaLombardia and the Messiah with Erwin Ortner at the Musikverein in Vienna. He also sings Linceo in Ipermestra by Cavalli at the Glyndebourne Festival, Oberon (A Midsummer Night's Dream by Britten) in OperaLombardia, Ermione (Trionfo dell'onore by Scarlatti) and the title role of Orfeo by Nicola Porpora at the Martina Festival Franca. He sang the Bach Christmas Oratorio under the direction of Jordi Savall in Barcelona. His recent and upcoming performances include the roles of Erminio (Trionfo dell'onore by Alessandro Scarlatti) at the Opera Fujiwara in Tokyo, the title role of Rinaldo (Pier Luigi Pizzi / Federico Maria Sardelli) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Gilade (Farnace by Vivaldi) at the Malibran Theater in Venice, Cleone (Alessandro by Handel) with the Kammerorchester Basel conducted by Diego Fasolis in Göttingen, Paris and Basel, the title role of Serse at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires. He made his debut at the OnR.
