Biography

His career began in 2005, when he was elected "Young Singer of the Year" by the  Opernwelt magazine. After three years with the Berlin Staatsoper Ensemble, he became independent in 2006 and was a guest on major European lyric stages and festivals as well as at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He is Lenski (Eugène Oneguine), Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore), Alfredo (Traviata) at the Wiener Staatsoper, Gennaro (Lucrezia Borgia) alongside Edita Gruberova and Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) with Diana Damrau at the Bayerische Munich Staatsoper where he also plays Alfredo, Nemorino, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Lenski, Idamante (Idomeneo), Narraboth (Salomé), Cassio (Otello), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Henry Morosus (Die schweigsame Frau) and more recently Hans (Die verkaufte Braut). At Covent Garden in London, he sings the roles of Lenski (Eugène Oneguine), Ferrando (Così fan tutte) and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), at the Opernhaus Zurich, he plays Steva (Jenufa), Don Ottavio, Faust, Roberto Devereux, Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles), Peter Quint (The Turn of the Screw), Alfredo Germont (Traviata), Macduff, (Macbeth), Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Nemorino (L'elisir d'amore) and Lenski. He has also been invited to the Opéra national de Paris, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Monnaie de Bruxelles, the Staatsoper in Berlin, the Salzburg festival, the Aix-en-Provence festival, the Grand Théâtre de Genève. He made his Australian debut at the Sydney Opera House in Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles) and most recently in Romeo (Romeo and Juliet) with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. He is a highly regarded performer in the recital field. Under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock, he participated in the opening concert of the Elbe Philharmonic. In 2018 he opened the Vienna Opera Ball and participated in the New Year's Concert at the Semperoper in Dresden under the direction of Christian Thielemann. His recital at Schwarzenberg's Schubertiade and at London's Wigmore Hall in London marked a milestone in his career. Soon, he will be in Die Csárdásfürstin (Edwin) in Zurich, Les Pêcheurs de perles at the Berlin Staatsoper, L'elisir d'amore in Dresden, Capriccio at the Paris Opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Bayerishe Munich Staatoper. He gave recitals at the OnR in 2011 and 2016.
