Vincent Monteil

Music director

Vincent Monteil has been music director of the Opera Studio of the ONR since 2008, and Music Advisor to the ONR since 2011. After training at the Conservatory of Angers, he continued his studies at the Conservatory of Rueil-Malmaison, while concurrently pursuing musicology at the Sorbonne. Mr. Monteil further advanced his conducting under Maestros Gérard Devos and Pierre Dervaux.

From 1991 to 1996 he was assistant conductor at the Capitole de Toulouse under Michel Plasson. In 1996 he joined the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nice where he led over thirty performances a year. From 1999 to 2003, he was invited to collaborate with the Prague State Opera, where he became the principal guest conductor for French operatic repertoire. During the Prague Spring Festival of 2002, he conducted Carmen, Robert le Diable and Ariane et Barbe-Bleue. The operas he recorded in Prague earned him an invitation from Sir John Eliot Gardiner to prepare the production of Ariane et Barbe-Bleue in Zurich.

In 2005 he was chosen by CulturesFrance to disseminate French music abroad as a conductor. His most recent performances include Samson et Dalila and Faust in Russia and three evenings of concerts at the FestivalOpéra of Saint-Eustache in Montreal. In 2012 he will begin a three-year collaboration as artistic director of Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano, Tuscany.
