Le Chœur

Since it was created in September 2001, the Petits Chanteurs de Strasbourg play an active role in the musical life of the Region of Alsace -especially in Strasbourg - but they also perform throughout the region, in France and abroad. An eclectic repertory always tackled in depth and the selection of original works are the trademark of the Petits Chanteurs de Strasbourg at the Maîtrise of the Opéra national du Rhin.

The Petits Chanteurs have enjoyed many unforgettable experiences, such as performing concerts with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the orchestra of the Opéra national de Lyon, the Opéra national du Rhin, the Jeunes Voix du Rhin, the Choruses of the Bratislava Opera House, orchestra conductors such as Michel Plasson - Bertrand de Billy - Daniel Klajner - Jan Latham-Koenig and also jazz and pop artists such as Richard Galliano, Amel Bent, Garou, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Céline Dion  and Julien Clerc.

The children's choir also recorded a DVD (Korngold's "Die Tote Stadt" in 2002) and appeared in Michel Deutsch's film "Hôtel de l'esprit" in 2006.

The choir has also travelled and performed in various regions in France (Burgundy, Alps, Normandy, Centre...) and throughout Europe (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK) where they have taken their concerts on tour.
In January 2008, the choir took up a new challenge: taking part in seven concerts on the new Zénith-Europe stage to perform with the best known pop artists on the French scene during the concerts of the "Enfoirés". This unique experience led to the recording of a triple platinum disc and a diamond DVD making the choir well known far beyond the regional borders. They also performed in the French TF1 television studios for a broadcast that attracted 10 million viewers. Another unusual experience occurred when the choir was invited to take part in the Bastille Day celebrations on 14th July 2008 in Paris under the Arc de Triomphe.

In the 2009-2010 season, the Petits Chanteurs de Strasbourg also became the Maîtrise (singing school) of the Opéra national du Rhin in line with the ambitious partnership started in 2006. With the large-scale management frame of the national opera house, the choir is attaining greater professionalism both in terms of its structure and education. Regular contact with the permanent and guest professional artistes in conjunction with the psychological impact of truly belonging to a grand opera house have a positive impact on training.
This close proximity has enabled the young singers to discover the grand theatre stage through a variety of productions such as Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold, Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, Jules Massenet's Werther and more recently Philippe Manoury's La Nuit de Gutenberg. They also perform at concerts targeting young audiences on the theme of vocal discovery and other workshops for young choir singers.

The Opera is aiming to further develop its educational vocation and extend its outreach.

During the 2012-2013 season, the young choir singers participated in Die Zauberflöte, Tosca, Owen Wingrave and The Cunning Little Vixen. This year, they will be playing "head and tails" during an aperitif concert on the opera stage in the Spring.

In 2007, the vocal ensemble recorded its first CD devoted to French 19th century vocal music with previously unheard material by Delibes, Fauré, Saint-Saëns and Berlioz. The recording marks a step forward in the development of the vocal ensemble.

Since then, there have been other recordings, in particular for Bayard Presse. Finally, the choir has taken part in a new recording of Jules Massenet's Werther with the orchestra of the Opéra de Lyon, Elina Garança, Ludovic Tézier and Jean-Philippe Lafont. The CD was brought out under the Universal Music-Deutsche Grammophon label in 2010.
