Sindbad, A Journey Through Living Flames / Howard Moody

[New production]
Children's opera

Libretto by Howard Moody
Premiered at the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels on 14th February 2014

The great navigator and adventurer Sinbad the Sailor is one of the most likeable characters in the oral and literary tradition of the Persian world. His strength and bravery have inspired composer Howard Moody to create an opera where Sinbad and Scheherazade, the wonderful storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights, are the protagonists, played by brilliant young singers side by side with children, who for the most part, are discovering music and theatre through this opportunity. A real community project that demands months of preparation for the children and their teachers, Sinbad tells of how important it is to receive forgiveness – perhaps the most beautiful personal journey through which the new generation may rebuild a country devastated by war.
