Ballet de l'Opéra national du Rhin
Britain was late coming to dance, and when interest was finally aroused, the country was to become both a temple of conservatism and a melting pot of innovative ideas. The Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin is revelling in this ambivalence by presenting the key work of one of the top British choreographers of international renown: Antony Tudor and his conversation in dance Jardin aux lilas to the music of Poème by Ernest Chausson. In counterpoint, one of the rising talents on the British scene, Thomas Noone has created a work for the company which fully reflects the topicality and dynamics of dance in this country. Mathieu Guilhaumon, the only French choreographer in this "British" evening, is already well known by the public in Alsace for his creations aimed at young audiences. Here, he extends an invitation to Henry Purcell, no doubt the most emblematic of British composers. Perhaps an answer to the love that Antony Tudor expresses for French music.
